BCC's Niall O'Hagan wins Dervock Civic Week Road Race
2011

Bann Wheelers for the Dervock Civic Week helped in organising a bike race. "Hotcha" in Dervock were the generous
sponsors. The Dervock Civic Week committee arranged for trophies, medals and prizes for competitors in the
race.
The 5 lap race was started and a fast and furious pace was set. Locals attending the Civic Week festivities seemed
to have a positive effect on the racers as they were spurred on by cheers and shouts of encouragement. The two
groups came together for the final lap and the games began on the road in, ending in a fierce sprint finish to the
finish line. Niall O’Hagen (BCC) took the honours by a wheel over Mark McCullough (Ballymena Road Club) who was
followed by Ronnie Kidd in third. Fastest local finisher was Aaron Dickie (BCC).This race is open to all comers
although it normally brings out the top two clubs in the area to compete for the spoils in front of a local crowd.
Everybody likes a chance to win in front of their home crowd. Bann Wheelers and Ballymoney Cycling Club both
fielded strong teams of riders.
Ballymoney CC hard man Wayne Stevens was unfortunate to suffer a broken spoke on the first lap and had to
retire.
Aaron Dickie was the best placed local rider.
