Ballymoney CC Leisure and Health cyclist's
support Cody's Challenge 2011

Over three hundred people turned up at Richhill
last Saturday to donate to Heartbeat and the Royal Hospital for Children and to support Judith and Stephen
Gallagher in their efforts to raise money. 250 plus riders then headed out on what can only be described as a
bleak day with cold winds and freezing fog to tackle the three runs on offer. The hard men and women including
a contingent from the Sandy Wallace Women's Racing team from Scotland were among those who bit the bullet and
did the seventy miles.
Those
who were unsure about this took off five minutes later to do the fifty mile loop. The family run of twenty miles
was well supported and great credit must go to Steady CC who brought all their members out to help marshal and
control the run so that no-one got lost or dropped. They did a fantastic job and Judith and Stephen would like
to say a special thanks to them.

There
was over £3000 raised on the day for the charities concerned and in memory of Cody Gallagher who died from a
heart complaint in December 2009. Stephen Gallagher said, "I am really touched by the support we have received
from all sorts of people and the cycling community in particular. When I looked at the weather this morning I
never expected to see so many people turn up. Philip Deignan travelled all the way down from Donegal to be here
and that is amazing. I know lots of riders were pleased to get the opportunity to ride with the new Radio Shack
professional. Judith and I would just want to say thanks to anyone who helped in anyway. Cycling Ulster and the
David McCall Foundation supplied us with bidons for the 'goody bags' and I know Davy would have been the first
man to sign on if he was still with us. I cannot begin to name all the others who helped but please know that we
are forever grateful and it makes the efforts to raise money so worthwhile. We hope to buy a scanner for the
unit but will keep you all updated on how this is progressing."
