This is an opportunity for any endurance athlete, recreational or competitive, to be walked through the areas of nutrition critical to their sporting performances.
Barry specialises in sports and performance related nutrition with the aim to combine research, science and common sense to enhance performance and general health when training and exercising.  He works with professional teams like Team SKY, Rapha Condor SHARP and the Swiss based BMC team.
Barry who is well positioned to provide proof of his success in the solutions and advice he offers sports people, triathletes and cyclists alike. Professional Premiership football teams like Aston Villa have actively been looking for Barry's help.
We all know only too often nutrition is overlooked.  We know it's important, but how important?  Barry takes us through the significant factors influencing our bodies by what we eat, timing of eating and the role food plays in reaching goals.
Barry says "Nutrition governs your health and without good health, you cannot train."  Barry will highlight the importance of eating in relation to the volume of training you do, for example, if you have a rest day what you eat is different to a day whereby you have a 3 hour ride with specific efforts.
He will highlight how the right nutrition will help make significant changes to your fitness by improving areas like training adaptation, fuel efficiency, recovery and body composition.
Barry will be accompanied by top Irish professional cyclist and director of Forme Coaching Stephen Gallagher. Stephen FBD Ras winner 2008 and a lifetime honorary member of the Ballymoney club, is very active in working and coaching local cyclists and in fact his methods have been instrumental in one local rider having over 20 race in wins in 12 racing months. This is also and opportunity to get a chat with the man himself and discover some of his secrets.

If you are serious about your training and your sport this is an opportunity you cannot miss.
The seminar will be held in Ballymoney Leisure Centre, starting promptly at 7:30pm.  If you would like to join us on Tuesday night please email Mandy at mandy@formecoaching.com or ring Maurice on 07707088396. There is limited availability due to seating therefore to avoid disappointment please respond as soon as possible.  Remember we are doing this for FREE.  You won't be disappointed .... that is Guaranteed!

Ballymoney Cycling Club and Action Medical Research at the NW200

ballymoney cycling club

Ballymoney Cycling Club and Action Medical Research for Children are teaming up to hold a Charity cycle on Sunday 13th May on the start of the famous North West 200 week.
It is traditional on this day as there is a sponsored walk and fun run, but this is an opportunity
for two wheels to join them on a week that is dominated by their faster counter parts on Suzuki's, Honda's and Yamaha's. Giving the leathers of the racers a chance to swap their leathers for cycling shorts and jerseys. Some riders have already indicated that they will be joining in to help
with this fantastic initiative. A complete names list will be published shortly, and as they say "watch this space."
As the Ballymoney Club are familiar and have vast experience in promoting these types of events, BCC have raised funds for the Community Rescue Service with the "Bridges of Hope" cycle runs based at Stranocum, Cycle for Meningitis Research from Portrush to the Downings in Donegal. Ballymoney CC and Steady CC in Armagh cooperate each year in putting together "Cody's Challenge" This massive event is held in co operation with BCC honorary members FDB Ras winner and pro cyclist Stephen Gallagher and wife Judith Gallagher, Stephen and Judith lost their son Cody to cardiomyopathy back in 2009. Since then BCC have assisted in organising the raising of funds for the Northern Ireland Children's Heartbeat Trust. These are the type of events that bring the awareness to needed to the worthy causes who rely solely on the general public's generosity.
When BCC chairman Charlie Dickson entered into communication with Sarah Matzen from Action Medical they along with Cathal Cunning, who takes care of safety and marshalling at the NW200. The plans were put in place to hold a "GIANT" charity fundraising cycle round the NW200 course, one time or as many times as you like with ALL the proceeds going to the charity. It was instantly hailed as a winner for all involved. The concept is so easy for everyone, the marshal's and the safety features are already in place for the motorbikes and it is the choice of the cyclist to ride as far and for as long as they like.
Extensive planning is now in place to make this a family day of fun for everyone. The exciting aspect for cycling enthusiasts being able to assist the charity is knowing also that the World professional road cyclist and Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish is a patron of the charity
and like so many others has lent his support to raising funds for Research Medical. Patrons here in Northern Ireland for the charity are Moto GP rider Jeremy McWilliams and TV presenter Pamela Ballantyne.
As there will be an official launch all the details will be in the local press in the coming weeks.

Ballymoney CC Night Adventure Cycling.

BCC Leisure Cyclist Chris Frew, gathered together on Thursday night at 7.30pm in driving sleet and extreme winter conditions a small group of hardy souls equipped with warm clothes, hi viz vests/jackets and an array of lights on bicycles. The Night Adventure Cycling concept was born.
This novel idea is to encourage anyone with any type of bike to come out on a Thursday evening and for approximately 60minutes ride in a highly visible group cycle the paths and cycle ways that are fairly well lite up by lights and get some exercise rather than sit in front of the TV on the killer couch.
Chris, said that he wants to see as many joining us each Thursday as it will "Clear the cob webs from you and help improve your health!"
So all fun/leisure cyclists are invited, each Thursday night from the Joey Dunlop Centre leaving at 7.30pm to come along, if you don't have a hi viz vest or a helmet, BCC will provide those for you.

Weekend Runs and Info Mornings.
Ballymoney CC weekend runs are from the Joey Dunlop Centre on a Saturday, 10.15am. These are for everyone to enjoy and are at the pace of the slowest rider covering anything from 15 - 25 miles depending on the group and the weather.
BCC also provide an opportunity for others interested in joining the club to come along and meet club officials who will answer any questions they have about cycling, insurance and membership. There will be some one there from 9.30am to 11.00am in the JDLC restaurant.

Aoife and Aaron are Ulster Champions.
Ballymoney Cycling Club of the year 2011 are once again crowned in glory. Under14 rider Aoife Cameron Mitchell was awarded the Girls Under 16 MTB Champion for 2011. The awards took place at Moyola Golf Club on Saturday past and receiving the award on Aoife's behalf was club treasurer and great exponent of youth cycling development in Ireland, Colin Thompson. Aoife had success at Larne, Ormeau Park and Bangor.
With youth cycling growing at a very fast pace in Ulster, clubs like Banbridge, Carn Wheelers and Spires of Magherafelt are leading the field by a country mile and the Ballymoney Club will be hard on their heels now in the new Year when Sprocket Rocket coaches Niall Carlin and Joan Trengove set in motion the plans that BCC have for 2012/13.
With riders from BCC in the past mainly involved in Road racing and health and leisure cycling, it came as
a great challenge when Aoife, Aaron and Stuart Laverty were starting to show that they could handle themselves off road as well, Riders like under 12 and 10years Eoin and Liam McAuley, James and Rebecca Carlin, Chris Surgenor Craig Crawford and not forgetting the elder statesman of the group the experienced Graeme Elliott.
Aoife has now set a standard for other girls to follow and the Ballymoney club are delighted that they now have a female champion to also grab a bit of the limelight from Clough schoolboy flyer Aaron Swan.
Ballymoney CC girls Ellen McAree, Aoife Cameron Mitchell and Caitie O'Hagan are also on the 2020 Irish girls squad in special road, off road and track preparation for the build up to world events and eventually the Olympics. Exiting times are ahead for the girls and they will be supported by the others at Ballymoney Cycling Club.
Aaron Swan is 6 Times Champion.
BCC favourite son Aaron Swan was awarded 6 titles for 2011 at Moyola on Saturday night, N.Ireland Road Champion, Ulster Road Race Champion,
Ulster Time Trial Champion, Ulster Mountain Bike champion, Ulster Cyclo cross Champion and Ulster Cyclo cross League Champion! So one again the Swan trophy cabinet will be under serious pressure to house all the awards from 2011. Aaron also received a Special Award for Achievements in 2011 from BCC Chairman Charlie Dickson and Pro Maurice McAllister at the BCC Awards recently!
All this follows a year when Aaron has been dominant in his age groups and showing that he is Ireland's best. So much so that he is now being looked after by a professional coach and is being groomed for a career in his chosen sport. Plans are also in place to link him up with a team in France once the time is felt right for his development. BCC Pro spoke at great length to Aaron's coach about the young lad and the plans ahead, being told that it is great to see and meet a young man with his feet on the ground and an ability to do as he is asked and to follow instructions. Aaron is a young man who hangs on every word and is keen to do what he is asked to do. This is refreshing as so many other beginners after a few months think they know it all and eventually are lost to the sport.
Ballymoney Cycling Club wish all our young riders, from recent beginner Johnny McGowan to Aaron Swan every success in 2012 and the years ahead.
Cycling for Everybody.
On Saturday mornings riders are gathering at the Joey Dunlop Centre to enjoy this fast growing pastime. If you have A BICYCLE you are welcome to come along and join the groups going out. No matter what your ability or experience is, there will be a group to suit everyone. The BEGINNERS, Health and Leisure groups
leave at 10.15am.
The FAST racing and hard riders groups leave at 9.30am.
Everyone is invited to come along and join the successful Ballymoney Cycling Club each week, also an opportunity to join the club and have the Cycling Ireland
Insurance cover that brings so many into the sport and pastime every year.
Club Secretary Martina Boyle and other club cyclists are there each week to help answer your questions and get you started with the correct information.
